I'm Sorry T, But...

I don't know if I can keep watching Chuck any longer. I'm just so tired of the will-they-or-won't-they Sarah and Chuck drama. I mean, I get that part of the premise of the show is the audience waiting for it to happen, but it's time to give it up NBC. It's just gotten annoying. I mean, how many times have they broken up? How many covert glances can they throw at each other? At this point, if they're not going to get together, I demand the return of Rachel Bilson! Chuck needs to get some action. And, like, now.

Kate Winslet has done it...

Finally after so many amazing performances, Kate Winslet won the Oscar last night. I have been a fan of her's since the beautifully disturbing Heavenly Creatures (which I believe K still has to see). I suggest all of her movies except maybe Hideous Kinky and Holy Smoke, they were just weird.
My essential Winslet recommendations: Heavenly Creatures, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Quills, and Sense and Sensibility.

Digging Dollhouse

Once upon a time I had a particular liking for Ms. Dushku. While that time has passed I must admit it was awesome seeing her on the cover of Maxim (once a wish of mine) and its even awesomer(oh yeah I said it) that I am really digging the new show. Well done Joss Whedon. Well done!!!

Random Twilight saga news

So the pic is the logo for this year's New Moon... YAY!!! I think.... but it's being reported that New Moon director Chris Weitz will not direct the next installment Eclipse, because by the time they start filming on that one he will still be in post-production... WHAT? I get that Summit is excited but they seem to be really rushing these movies. Thankfully stinky pants aka Catherine Hardwicke is not anywhere near the sequels... she straight f-ed up Twilight.
Oh and apparently Madonna wants a piece of the action and is reportedly going to contribute to the soundtrack. Painful...

Watching...

So, D and I just checked out Joss Whedon's latest show Dollhouse on Fox and we aren't really sure what we think yet. D doesn't think it will make it, especially with a Friday at 9 time slot. I think it's geeky enough to be interesting but I don't think I would miss it if it was cancelled. Eliza Dushku gave a rather impressive performance though and looked very good kicking ass, as per usual.

Next Week on Chuck

SPOILER ALERT!!!

-t

Coming to the CW

I read these books when I was in junior high and high school. I'm excited but slightly skeptical about this. I know these books inside and out and I really hope they don't screw them up. The CW has a so so track record with me so I hope its more like this season of Smallville instead of the new 90210(bleh).

Watch It 2009

Holy Craptstic Batman!!! No, I'm not talking about the new 90210. That show is just "crap", Heroes or Privileged might deserve the moniker but this isn't about bad television
My winter session is through and I felt it necessary to do a little posting. My favorite shows so far...

WHAT TO WATCH 2009:

- Chuck - Obviously I'm obsessed

- Scrubs - JD and Elliot together makes me sooo happy

- Grey's Anatomy - Dead guy Denny finally "poofed away" and
Lil Grey and Sloan = Hot

- Private Practice - D & I heart Kate Walsh she's just so pretty

- 11th Hour - Rufus Sewell & science geekiness - fabulous
- Medium - We love that she sees dead people... really.
- CSI: Las Vegas - That one girl from L Word that was actually hot is on it... YAY!
- Smallville - Best season yet plus Tom Welling is HOT!!!
- Honorable Mention: Las Vegas re-runs on TNT - Love em!
We miss you Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money

My New Crush

Georges "Rush" St-Pierre, also known as GSP, a French Canadian MMA fighter. He beat BJ Penn this past weekend at UFC 94, and is the current Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight champion.

I never thought I was the type of person who would get into watching men beat the crap out of each other, but I was definitely into it this weekend! Some of the hits made me cringe a little, but these men are talented fighters, and it was pretty amazing to see the takedowns and knock-out punches. Plus, GSP is hot!

In other sports-related news, I ended up watching most of the Super Bowl yesterday, without really meaning too. I've never really gotten into football, but we were out at my in-laws, and they're huge football fans, so I settled in to watch. As soon as I found out Arizona was the underdog, I started cheering for them. (I always like the underdog.) I thought they might've clinched the win with Larry Fitzgerald's 64-yard touchdown, but Santonio Holmes' incredible catch with 35 seconds remaining was too impressive to beat. (Although I still think he only had one foot down...)

And Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's half-time show was AMAZING! (T, I know how much you love the Boss!) That man puts on the best show out there. My dad took me and my younger brother to see him play at the Boston (TD Banknorth) Garden when I was in college. He may not be my absolutel favorite musician, but it was the best concert I've ever been to. He really puts everything into his performances. Plus, no nipples, so that's nice.

And that's all from the K Sports Front this morning!

A Few Things, Not Necessarily Related

1. T, we need a new song. Seriously. I CANNOT keep singing about how Jesus "would martyr his mama to ride to hell between those thighs." Especially since I only recently stopped singing about riding that Pony...
2. GObama!!!
3. I must apologize again for being remiss in my blogging duties. I'd promise to do better from here on out, but... Oh hell, I'll promise to do better from here on out! (I'd complain about working two jobs, and taking on at least one freelance project, but I know how busy T has been with winter session, so it just wouldn't be right, when she isn't.)
4. Re: T's post about Dakota Fanning being Jane in New Moon, I'm all for it! (Dear God, do you realize that New Moon comes out in less than a year?! That's genius!)
5. I'm extremely disappointed I couldn't watch 30 Second Bunny Twilight.
6. Do you realized that this year, February 2009 is a perfect four weeks?!
7. One last thing. T, I miss you!!!

Dakota Fanning is said to be in talks to play Jane in the Twilight sequel New Moon. I think she would be an amazing choice. Here's hoping...

Let Pluto go...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the demotion of Pluto is because it is actually a comet. Over the years it has shrunk in size and will one day disappear completely. I say this only because I would hate for all those Pro-Pluto folks out there to get attached and later be hurt when it is no longer.

-t

The Nostaliga Factor

I think I may have mentioned this before, but I am still really upset about Pluto's demotion from planet to dwarf planet. An eight-planet solar system? Lame. Nine planets is the way to go. It's how it has been (at least as long as I've paid attention), odd numbers make way more sense than even, and, well, it's just not fair to demote a planet willy-nilly like that!

Here's a recent NY Times article/blog about the topic: How Many Planets Do You Want in the Solar System?

Vote for Pluto people, it's the right way to go! In this instance, do NOT "be the change!"

Library Lament

Those of you who know me well, know my near obsession with reading. When I found myself unemployed for three months, I also found myself with ample time to read. However, I no longer had a budget conducive to buying every book I came in contact with. So, I turned to that old, trusted friend: the public library. I hopped the metro downtown one day in late September, got set up with a card from the Central Library and proceeded to check out five books that I had to hand-carry home because I had neglected to bring a bag.

Two days later, I had read all five books and was salivating for more. Due in part to time constraints (because, somehow, I was worried about time when I had nothing to do but job search all day) and laziness (-hint- this was probably the real reason), I went online to find that I could request books from the LA Public Library system and HAVE THEM SENT TO THE BRANCH NEAREST ME. Seeing as the nearest branch is a mere two blocks walk from my house, this was HUGE. I set about requesting every book I had ever thought about reading (well, nearly) and next thing you know, I'm stopping by the library two, three times a week and on a first name basis with the librarians. (Who, bless their little hearts, never seemed to judge me on the *cough, cough* quality of books I was reading.)

The funny thing about requesting books online is, you never know which branch they're coming from, or if they're currently checked out. So, sometimes they'd arrive within the week, and some would take a month or more. Which is how, early in December, I found that I had 21 books waiting for me at my library! The librarians laughed, and told me to pick out ten, that I could come pick up the rest when I was done. Knowing how much space my requests alone were taking up on their limited shelf space behind the desk, I truly appreciated what a magnificent institution the public library was.

And then, I stopped in this past Thursday.

Only to find my two favorite librarians teary-eyed, as they had just learned that their branch, my branch, our branch, is being shut down for construction on February 2nd, and will take anywhere from four to six months to be finished!!! They are brokenhearted. They have no idea where they'll be sent, or when in fact they will be able to return to Felipe de Neve. I feel their pain, my heart is breaking too.

What's a girl to do?!

Amazing Performance

Aaron Eckhart is fantastic in the Dark Knight. I have seen the film 3 times now and after the second time it became clear (and a little sad) how Heath Ledger's Joker totally eclipsed Eckhart's performance. Harvey Dent is the movie's central character and Eckhart plays him so effortlessly that you forget that the real struggle between Batman and the Joker is Dent's soul. Incredible. I recommend watching it again and watching Eckhart in particular, because he is amazing.

Top 15... Covers

I'm a fan of covers. I especially like when 80's songs are remade with a kick (Marilyn Manson). While I know this list is far from complete, I think its a hell of a start. I recommend then to all.

Placebo - Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush)
A Perfect Circle - Imagine (John Lennon)
Nine Inch Nails – Physical (you’re So) (Adam Ant)
Far – Pony (Ginuwine)
Killers – Shadowplay (Joy Division)
Concrete Blonde – Everybody Knows (Leonard Cohen)
Across the Universe – Fiona Apple (Beatles)
Hallelujah – Rufus Wainwright (Leonard Cohen & Jeff Buckley)
Tori Amos – Love Song (The Cure)
Michael Hutchence – Passenger (Siouxsie and the Banshees)
Lacuna Coil – Enjoy the Silence (Depeche Mode)
Marilyn Manson – Tainted Love (Soft Cell)
Orgy – Blue Monday (New Order)
Nirvana – Man Who Sold the World (David Bowie)
Offspring – Smash It Up ( The Damned)

I want to highlight the song of the day, Pony by Far. This is a new song that takes the lame original and makes it cool. Well done.

-t

Well done T! I've never heard Far's cover by Pony before, and I LOVE it! Thanks for starting the day off on a good musical note! I think I'll go listen to some Ani now...

An Open Letter

Dear New Year's Resolutioners,

While I appreciate your determination to get in shape this new year, we all know that after a few weeks, the lure of the gym will fade, real life will catch up with you and soon you'll be paying $29.99 a month out of guilt to your fitness center of choice. It's okay, there's no reason to be ashamed, it happens to a lot of people. And I really do want to see you succeed: your health is very important, and I wish that more people in this country would put more consideration into the food that they eat and the exercise they should be getting.

But please, please, as a card-carrying member of the gym that attends throughout the entire year, could you find somewhere other than LA Fitness to grunt and groan through these first few weeks of 2009? Because, honestly, you're screwing up my parking situation!

Sincerely,
K
